Sounds too good to be true? Well, we admit we have twisted the words a little to get your attention and if you are expecting tequila shooters, you are bound for a little letdown. What we do have up our sleeves are 5 magical beverages that you may have overlooked that can aid digestion, flush out toxins and ultimately help you shed pounds. Cheers, here’s to skinny sipping!
1. Green Tea
Green tea is made from unfermented leaves and reportedly contains the highest concentration of powerful antioxidants called polyphenols. Antioxidants are substances that scavenge free radicals — damaging compounds in the body that alter cells, tamper with DNA (genetic material), and even cause cell death. Free radicals occur naturally in the body, but environmental toxins (including ultraviolet rays from the sun, radiation, cigarette smoke, and air pollution) also give rise to these damaging particles. Many scientists believe that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems, including cancer and heart disease. Antioxidants such as polyphenols in green tea can neutralize free radicals and may reduce or even help prevent some of the damage they cause.
Studies suggest that green tea may be useful for health conditions such as cancer, high cholesterol, diabetes and liver disease. Clinical studies also suggest that green tea extract may boost metabolism and help burn fat! One study confirmed that the combination of green tea and caffeine improved weight loss and maintenance in overweight and moderately obese individuals. Some researchers speculate that substances in green tea known as polyphenols, specifically the catechins, are responsible for the herb’s fat-burning effect.
Year after year the population of the United States presented hundreds of weight loss “secrets” – unfortunately, most of these strange diet plans entail a loss of pounds quickly, but it is extremely difficult, even unhealthy, to enlarge. This year we are promoting the good old way of losing weight – less calories, burn more calories. The food is being said, specific and drinks can definitely help you achieve your weight loss goals. One in particular, Rooibos tea is a powerful natural beverage that continues to grow in popularity, especially among the health conscious.
2. Rooibos tea
Rooibos tea, a South African rooibos herb is a non-caffeinated, low tannin, calorie-free beverage that contains powerful antioxidants. And what this has to do with weight loss? Firstly, Rooibos tea is naturally sweet and best of all, calorie-free. It can be a substitute for other high calorie beverage that you may be consuming throughout your day. Secondly, Rooibos tea naturally relieves stress which can be a cause of binge eating. Rooibos tea has also been known to improve the quality of your sleep, and since lack of sleep causes weight gain, improving your sleep cycle will aid your slimming efforts. Some reports have also found Rooibos to be a natural appetite suppressant. The natural South African botanical, Hoodia Gordonii contains a molecule P57 that aids appetite suppression. This powerful plant has been used for centuries to trick the brain into believing you are full, even if no food was consumed.
3. Tomato & Cucumber juice
Medical experts believe that 2 to 3 tomatoes a day meet the body’s daily vitamin C needs. Several glasses of tomato juice can supply half the amount of vitamin A needed during night. Tomato contains a lot of citric acid and malic acid which enhance the body’s metabolism, promote the production of gastric juice, and strengthen the digestive capability of greasy food. Vitamin P in tomato protects blood vessels, prevent and treat hypertension, and can improve the heart’s work. In addition, long term drinking of tomato juice can improve skin health. Tomato juice, in combination with apple juice, pumpkin juice and lemon juice, can also play a role in obesity treatment. Cucumber juice on the other hand has the best diuretic (water eliminating) effect among its other health benefits. Cucumber juice may play an important role in maintaining strong heart and blood vessels, regulating blood pressure, preventing excessive tension and cardiac atherosclerosis. Cucumber juice can also make the nervous system sedative and strong and enhance memory. Cucumber juice contains many nutrients for hair and nails, and helps to prevent hair loss and nail splitting. Cucumber juice contains less fat and sugar, which is ideal for weight loss. When both are drunk together as a healthy vegetable concoction each morning, you can give your body the best start to losing weight daily.
OPTIFAST® has been the choice of medical experts as a serious solution for weight loss. The typical OPTIFAST patient can lose up to 52 pounds in 22 weeks if they adhere to their weight loss program designed by their doctors. Unlike fad diets, the OPTIFAST program has been proven effective in more than 80 clinical studies and by more than 1 million people who have participated in the program since 1974. Five-year follow-up studies show that over 50% of people who complete the OPTIFAST Program keep enough weight off to improve their health long term.* What’s the secret? Participants say it’s because OPTIFAST isn’t just a diet – it’s a community that provides ongoing support during and long after weight loss.
OPTIFAST is a specially prepared meal replacement drink that contains high-quality, complete nutrition but in pre-portioned and calorie-controlled servings. All you have to do is mix it with water (chilled or warm according to your preference) and drink this in place of your regular meals. Some people may choose to replace all three meals while others will replace only one or two meals. While some people are skeptical about their ability to follow such a diet, most like me find that the body adjusts to a full meal replacement food plan in about one week. Afterward, many OPTIFAST drinkers report they feel more energetic than they have for a long time.
“In addition to losing weight, the Optifast Diet plan will improve your health, help you learn new, healthier eating habits and engage in activities so that when you return to self-prepared foods, you are better equipped to manage your weight long term.” Says Dr Low Chai Ling, medical director of The Sloane Clinic (www.sloaneclinic.com)
