Beauty Q

Dear Miss Glam,

I have a flat nose and a receded chin, this makes me look very unappealing. I have always wanted to look like those Korean celebrities with a sharper chin and a more defined nose. However, I am not keen for surgery, are there any non-surgical options that can bring me closer to my dreams?

Dear Eunice,

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane®, Juvéderm® and Voluma® can help to augment and shape their features without having to undergo surgery. In the past, fillers were used for smoothing away wrinkles and lines. Now they are also used to enhance facial features such as the nose, chin, lips or restore facial volume to cheeks, giving the individual a more sculpted and attractive appearance.

Individuals with a flat nose bridge or those wishing to balance the size of the nose in comparison with other facial features can opt to reshape their nose using such fillers. Individuals with a small or a protracted chin are good candidates for chin fillers and this is particularly common in Asian patients. Chin augmentation using fillers helps to create a more triangular and youthful appearance to lower face. This can be combined with jawline contouring using BOTOX® and cheek augmentation using fillers to recreate the youthful V shaped face that is seen in models and celebrities.

Fillers are made of natural hyaluronic acid gel that closely resembles our body’s own hyaluronic acid. As such, they are very safe with little risks. They are administered through tiny injections, the procedure takes about 30 minutes and is associated with little downtime. The aesthetic results are immediate and you will see a noticeable difference immediately right after the treatment. Patients can wear makeup and return to work immediately after. It has also been shown in studies that hyaluronic acid fillers can stimulate your own skin’s fibroblasts, stimulating further natural collagen growth and enhancing your skin further for a few weeks after the treatment.

Althought the effects of fillers are long-lasting, they are not permanent as they will slowly be metabolized by the body. Results can last up to one year, depending on each individual’s ageing process. But best of all, the reason why they are so popular is because of the reversibility of the procedure. If the patient is unhappy with the results or changes his or her mind, the fillers can be safely ‘melted’ away with an enzyme preparation. So ladies, if you are toying with the idea of a rhinoplasty, try opting for nose fillers first. This will give you a realistic idea of what to expect and best of all, if you change your mind, it is easily reversible. You have but one face after all.

Take care!

xoxo

  1. Fillers are great but please take note that the end results are very much dependable on the doctor’s skills! So always check the doctor’s credentials and know what fillers he or she is using. Don’t just choose one over the other just becos he’s cheaper! As the saying goes, “What you pay is what you get!”
