Do you know that studies have shown that when a person judge another, his perception of his or her beauty is influenced firstly by that person’s complexion), secondly by the face shape and only then the facial features come into play? In other words, if you don’t have nice skin and a nice face shape, it’s hard for others to get pass that to notice your well-shaped nose or perfect lips pout. Since the ancient times of civilization, the quest for beauty has led to many ways for one to achieve a flawless complexion. However, such cannot be said about face shape. For the longest time, for those not genetically blessed with a desirable oval or triangular face shape; the only way to make one’s face appear slimmer is with make-up and hairstyle choices. Dieting is another option but this can be a hit or miss. When one loses weight, it does not guarantee a slimmer face. In fact, you might end up looking tired and sunken with the loss of facial fat pads and yet your face shape and thus the size of it remained unaltered.
The good news is recent advances in the field of Aesthetics Medicine had now made it possible for one to alter his or her face shape to a conventionally beautiful type. Here’s my list of the top 5 ways to shape your face to gorgeousness.
1. Botox Masseter
The ‘tidal wave’ of K-pop and Korean drama series in recent years has created the image of a ‘V-shaped’ face as being the epitome of Asian beauty as seen on every single Korean starlet and small screen heroine alike. Be it the everyday woman or a superstar, it’s a shared dream amongst Asian ladies to have that perfect V. Apart from prominent mandibular or jaw bones, a squarish or broad face can be due to over-sized jaw muscles also known as masseters, that sit on the sides of your jaw. People who grind their teeth frequently, or have a habit of chewing gum or crunching ice since young may develop a square jaw appearance by the time they hit adulthood. Botox injections can be administered to this area to relax and contract these masseter muscles, resulting in a slimmer face and up one’s quotient of attractiveness.
2. Masculinity Re-Define
A defined jawline with a well- proportioned chin enhances one’s masculinity. An easy way is to grow a goatee or a beard but not all men are able to do so or prefer this kind of look. An aesthetic procedure that one can consider is to re-define one’s jawline with fillers. Chin enhancement is a fairly straight-forward procedure which consist of injecting a Hyaluronic Acid or HA filler and molding it to give the chin a more appealing look. “Creating a more sculpted jawline with fillers require both skills and good knowledge of the anatomy of the area to be treated,” says senior physician, Dr. Chua Han Boon from The Sloane Clinic ”There’s a certain artistry to it so it might be worthwhile to assess the credentials and testimonials of the injector before you decide to have the procedure done.”
3. Jawline Resurrection
As one ages, it’s not uncommon to develop unsightly platysmal neck bands which tend to pull down the jawline resulting in a loss of definition. Going by the very elegant name of a ‘Nefertiti Lift’ with reference to the Egyptian queen famous for her beautiful swan neck, this treatment is actually done by injecting small doses of botulinum toxin into the neck muscles and along the jawline to smooth out these unsightly bands and give the lower face a lift.
4. Jowls Lift
Gravity causes everything to move southwards and with age and weight gain, double chin and jowls result in the loss of youthfulness to one’s face. If liposuction and going under the knife for a surgical facelift seem too extreme, you would be glad to learn that there are currently non-surgical options to treat these woes of aging. Thermage and Ulthera are two FDA approved procedures that give good and long lasting results. Thermage is a radiofrequency therapy that tightens skin by stimulating collagen remodeling and regeneration while Ulthera employs selective miconized ultrasound therapy to cause deep tissue lifting to correct the saggy and wobbly skin. Results for both treatments are gradually built up over the next 3 to 6 months and last for a year or more.
5. V- Line Surgery
Unfortunately, for some ladies, the squareness of the face is caused by really prominent and protruding mandibular bone which leads to a harsh and manly looking jawline. This can be corrected with a V-Line Sugery which is a facial bone contouring plastic surgical procedure done through an incision in the mouth such that no external tell-tale scars are left behind. Recovery time can take up to 10 to 14 days and when combined with Botox masseters, results can be nothing short of amazing.
