Top 5 foods you should strike off your menu if you want to look good and stay healthy.

#1 Starbucks’ Double Chocolaty Chip Frappuccino Blended Creme with whipped cream

Damage: 510 calories

Sure it sounds bad, but how bad is it? This afternoon pick-me-up delivers nearly one-third of the maximum fat you should consume in a day, and over half a day’s saturated fat.

One 16-ounce Grande: 510 calories; 19g fat, 11g saturated; 59g sugar; 300mg sodium.

Choose this instead: Your best bet is a regular cup of coffee without all the bells and whistles. If you just can’t live without a Frappuccino, make it a Coffee Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee: 130 calories, 0.5g fat, 16g sugar.

#2 VitaminWater

Damage: 125 calories

VitaminWater uses the old trick in which the nutrition information on the label is based on a serving size, but the bottle contains multiple servings—leaving you to do the math.

Each bottle contains 2.5 servings of the sugar-sweetened water, so a whole bottle delivers 33 grams of sugar (a can of Coke only has 6 more). That’s a lot of calories when plain water could do the trick.

One bottle (2.5 servings) of the Charge flavor: 125 calories, 32.5g sugar.

Choose this instead: New VitaminWater10 has only 10 calories per serving, or 25 if you finish the bottle. But it contains zero-calorie sweeteners. Another option is to ditch this altogether and go for iced water with a twist of lime, saving your waistline and you wallet.

#3 Big Mac

Damage: 550 calories

It might seem like the easy option, but even food listed on the healthy choices menu at your local McDonald’s is packed with artificial colours, flavours and preservatives that your body will hate you for. Not to mention the fact that ground beef combines the meat from many different animals, exposing you to disease-causing bacteria tipping the scales at 550 calories in total per serving. Choose this instead: Resist the temptation of convenience and whip up your own healthy burger at home using grass-fed ground beef.

#4 Canned tomatoes

Damage: Bisphenol-A

The resin lining most tin cans contains bisphenol-A, which has been linked to health issues including reproductive problems, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. The acidity found in tomatoes causes the BPA to be absorbed. Due to the human body’s sensitivity to BPA, it is a good idea to avoid canned tomatoes. Choose this instead: Opt for the glass bottle variety instead. Alternatively, go for fresh tomatoes to enjoy the wholesome goodness without the chemical additives.

#5 Diet soft drinks

Damage: Artificial sweeteners and chemicals

In order to replace the sugary-taste of normal soft drinks, diet soft drinks are pumped with artificial sweeteners and chemicals which are bad for your body. Research has shown that people who drink diet soft drinks regularly are more prone to problems with metabolism and weight-gain. Additionally, soft drinks of the diet variety can cause health problems including joint pain, digestive problems, headaches, chemical toxicity and even cancer. Choose this instead: So, next time you reach for a diet soda for an afternoon pick-me-up, switch to water or green tea instead.

  1. Hmm, Thanks goodness I already change to water or green tea to go with my food. I rarely eat burger too. Maybe once in a while I eat burger and drink coke but not everyday cause it’s harmful for one body.

  2. I think the all this so called vitaminwater is really sweet and now that I know that it also calories, all the more I wouldn’t drink it. I think that switching to iced water with lime is good.
