Alongside gorgeous eyes, beautiful full lips can be the difference between ‘average’ and ‘amazing. With a little loving care, your lips can be perfect in no time. Follow these steps and then pucker up!

Smooth away fine lines

Think of your lips as a sponge, they absorb water and plump up when exposed to moisture, but when dehydrated, they dry out and shrink. The skin on the lips is also thinner and has no oil glands, making them more susceptible to the elements.

Remember to always drink enough water to keep the body, skin and lips hydrated. To replenish lost moisture and amp up hydration on the lips, you can use a lip serum such as Sloane Inc Lip Fabulosity Serum, which contains squalene that will plump the lips up from within. Follow up by applying a lip balm which contains hydrating ingredients like shea butter, jojoba or beeswax such as La Mer The Lip Balm, to lock in the moisture.

If you have tried the best lip balm on the market and you are still suffering from chapped lips, not to worry. Give some much needed hydration and nourishment to your lips with The Sloane Clinic’s Revitalift Lips treatment. “An ultra fine hyaluronic acid is introduced into your puckers via a series of microinjections to revitalize and rejuvenate dull, chapped and lined lips without overtly amping up their volume or size.” explains Dr Toby Hui, The Sloane Clinic.

Slough away flakes

You probably already exfoliate your face and body regularly but do you know that your lips can benefit from this treatment too? Turn over those epidermal cells and stimulate new collagen to slow down the aging process of the lips by using a dedicated lip scrub.

We like the Sloane Inc Lip Fabulosity Scrub, which contains extra fine crystals that gently exfoliates the lips without hurting or tearing the skin. Apart from clearing off accumulated debris, it can also reduce any discolouration. As lips are also susceptible to sunburn since they lack melanin, apply a layer of a sun-protective product daily like Neutrogena Lip Moisturiser SPF 15 or look for a lipstick with SPF.

Plump up the Volume

Envious of Angelina Jolie’s perfect pout? Overdrawing the lip line by using a lip liner in a shade slightly darker than your lipstick or using lip plumping glosses might do the trick but for long term lip plumping, you will need to visit your aesthetic doctor for a hyaluronic acid filler. Kiss your lean, thin lips good bye with filler injections to create the beautiful looking lips you desire!

  1. While I generally use high-end skincare brands, I’m not loyal to one brand and also use less expensive brands like Mario Badescu. I’ve been a fan of La Mer for years, as I’ve been using Creme de la Mer religiously as my night cream for about five years and can’t live without it. As far as lip balms, I can’t use waxy sticks or Vaseline type products. I’ve been using Dr. Hauschka lip balm which retails for about $17 a jar, and is available at places like Whole Foods. I really like that product, and strayed for a chance to try La Mer’s lip balm on a whim. Wow. Of course the packaging is beautiful, with La Mer’s signature green as the tub’s color and a mirrored top with the logo etched in the center. It looks like a $50 lip balm. Upon opening it, I was instantly reminded of a Thin Mint cookie! It literally smells and tastes like a Thin Mint, which I actually like. I was unsure of how I’d feel about the mint factor, but I find it to be refreshing. A little goes a long way, much like Creme de la Mer. My lips feel supple, nourished, and moisturized without feeling greasy or waxy. What can I say? It’s perfect. Now I’m in a pickle because I am hooked! This is certainly an expensive product, and considering I use it multiple times a day I figure it will last just over a month. When money’s not tight, I will be buying this product again. Another Great product from La Mer.

  2. I had very cracked lips and had tried dozens of lip balms, treatments, etc. Carmex, things with shea butter, things with coconut oil, things with menthol, things with petroleum jelly, things that exfoliated, medicated things ,etc etc. Absolutely nothing was helping. Finally I decided to try La Mer Lip Balm, and it healed the sores on my lips within hours. It must be the ‘miracle broth.’ If you do not have severely dry lips, I can imagine it would not be a very impressive product, but if you do: I’m telling you, it really does work. It actually can heal very chapped, cracked lips in very little time. I don’t think I can go without it. It completely changed my lips, and I am happy they are no longer painful, cracked, and are now smooth, soft, and comfortable. 😉

  3. The first thing you need to know about lips (which i found out after years modelling) is that they will age with time. Bad habits such as biting your lips, not washing off your makeup and smoking will ultimately catch up with you. First thing before you shell out tons on expensive lip products is to cut down on lip damaging behaviours like those i mentioned above, then get lots of water and greens daily.
