Always wanted truly fabulous, glowing and younger looking skin? What you put on your plate is even more important than what you put on your skin. As older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones, a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Make it a point to eat the right things and you can give your skin a gorgeous glow. You are what you eat!
Skin loving food #1: Blueberries
These little berries are often also known as the antioxidant super fruit due to its high concentration of antioxidants and phytonutrients. The antioxidants in blueberries help to fight free radicals and guard against premature aging. Other good options include strawberries, cranberries and pomegranates.
Skin loving food #2: Broccoli
Blanched broccoli florets are bursting with vitamin C, which is another compound that can help your complexion. Not only does it help the body produce collagen, a protein that gives skin its firmness, it can also help skin repair and regenerate. And there’s more! Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant that fights free radicals to slow the rate of damage to collagen. Don’t really fancy broccoli? Consider other vitamin C rich foods like red bell peppers, papayas and kiwis.
Skin loving food #3: Walnuts
Walnuts are loaded with omega-3 essential fatty acids that are crucial for radiant, glowing skin. Omega-3 fatty acids are responsible for healthy cell membranes which help to lock the moisture in your cells, leading to plumper, younger looking skin. These nuts are also loaded with copper, a mineral that boosts collagen production. Other good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include salmon, sardines and flaxseeds.
Skin loving food #4: Brazil nuts
Brazil nuts are a good source of selenium which is a power antioxidant that helps safeguard the skin from sun damage and delays aging by protecting skin elasticity. Apart from brazil nuts, you can also get your selenium from wheatgerm, brown rice and eggs.
Skin loving food #5: Sweet potatoes
These orange veggies are one of the best sources of beta carotene, another nutrient critical for healthy skin. Beta carotene is converted to vitamin A in the body to aid in the growth and repair of body tissues. It also acts as an antioxidant that protects the skin against free radical damage and boosts your skin’s ability to shed the top layer of your skin cells. Other ways to get your fill of this nutrient include carrots, apricots and pumpkins.
Skin loving food #6: Sunflower seeds
Rich in vitamin E that is a powerful antioxidant, snack on sunflower seeds to help protect cell membranes and to guard against UV radiation damage. Other best foods for vitamin E include almonds, avocados and hazelnuts.
Skin loving food #7: Oysters
These slimy little creatures are choc full of zinc, a major player in skin renewal and skin repair where it helps to maintain the collagen that keeps skin firm. It is also a protective nutrient of our cell membranes and has antioxidant properties. Not really into oysters but still want to keep your skin fresh and as youthful as possible? Try other zinc rich foods in your menu such as red meat, crab and kidney beans.

Whether you sip it, slather it on topically, or take it in supplement form, green tea is a powerhouse food high in antioxidants, which help protect the body against damaging free radicals – a major factor in premature aging. It also contains phytochemicals that help to reduce inflammation. Remember to sip at least one cup of green tea a day!
