5 healthy Valentine’s Day gift ideas for your man

[By Jonathan Lipinski]

With Valentine’s Day just a couple of days away, are you scratching your head and getting a little flustered over what gift to get for the man in your life? You had hinted fairly strongly about the Chanel boy bag for the past few weeks, emailed him twice pictures of it and even gone as far as getting the serial number from the nice sales assistant when you dropped by the store at lunch hour to ‘browse’. Short of reserving one under his name for him to pay and collect, you are confident of securing the gift of your choice this year. Yet again… without a glitch.

However, the same can’t be said about your gift for him. Instead of another fancy tie or small leather goods that he never get round to using, why not consider these healthy and thoughtful gift options that show how much you know that someone is special? Whether he’s a fitness aficionado or a novice taking baby steps towards healthy living, wow him this Valentine’s Day with one or more of these fabulous gift choices that any modern day Adonis will surely appreciate.

The Fit Bit

1319Having this personal fitness tracking device is like having a personal trainer attached to you 24/7. Not only does it track your steps and calculate the number of calories burned, it is able to tell you the times that you are most active and energetic.

Basically, the Fit Bit monitors one’s TDEE, otherwise known as Total Daily Energy Expenditure. I have a Fit Bit Ultra and love it because I know what my TDEE is every day and can adjust my calories intake accordingly if I need to. On days that I do not exercise, I make sure I get at least 10,000 steps, which gives me a TDEE of 2150. On days that I do exercise I also get in the 10,000 steps, giving me a TDEE of 2400 or higher. I have been using it since last June and I highly recommend this as a gift for your partner who’s actively engaging in healthy lifestyle activities. Before Fit Bit, I had “dieted” my whole life on very low calories. When the number of calories consumed is too low, you are actually sabotaging your weight loss plan as it pushes down your metabolic rate and thus slows down your fat burning ability. With the actual monitoring from Fit Bit, one is able to eat more without worrying, making healthy meal planning a lot less stressful.

Register both names for a race

If fitness is the name of the game for your other half, why not surprise him by joining him for a race? It doesn’t matter if it’s a running race or an adventure race, a 10km route or half a marathon, the point is to share the experience together. Training for the event side by side will pull the both of you closer while mutual motivation will scale higher heights and put goals into realization. Remember to present the ‘gift’ of the registration voucher or the confirmation email printout with a thoughtfully penned note to warm your Valentine’s heart. These are the healthy memories that will go a long way in your relationship!

Engage a personal trainer

Having a personal trainer in the gym is a great way to provide knowledge, support and motivation for your man whether he’s just starting out or been training on his own for a number of years. The guidance from a professional will provide excellent basic groundwork or see him pushed through plateau, making time spent at the gym more efficient and rewarding. This gift of health is a little pricey but if you aren’t low on funds, I’m sure it will be greatly appreciated by the health enthusiast.

Gift of personal grooming

1318Is your guy a soap and cologne kind of man? Do you think it’s about time he does a little overhaul or maintenance in the beauty department? Well, a Valentine’s gift of personal grooming is an excellent way to initiate him into the unchartered seas.

“Our Deep Deep Clean facial is an excellent fuss free treatment for the busy gentleman on the go,” says Miss Noelle Tan, trained beauty therapist with The Sloane Spa @The Shoppes, Marina Bay Sands. “This is our signature procedure for gentle but thorough cleansing, combining microdermabrasion with a fruit acid wash,  ultrasonic deep pore purging and a targeted facial wrap to keep pesky breakouts at bay.”

Alternatively, one may wish to consider having a Laser Peel, a revolutionary approach to skin rejuvenation that’s safe and effective without any downtime. This procedure resurfaces and replenishes the skin at the same time with the use of gentle yet deep penetrating laser energy to exfoliate the rough and damaged outer layer of dead skin cells, revealing younger and softer skin underneath. A perfect way to spruce things up for the man of your life before the all-important Valentine’s dinner date!

An active vacation

As an interesting change to your vacation together, make plans to take the road that’s less travelled. The need to make compromise to modern comforts that we have grown accustomed to and having the chance to rough it out together helps narrow the gap between two individuals and is a great test to how you two fair as a team. Plan an interesting itinerary such that along the way, you can pepper it with luxurious pit stops such as a decadent one-night stay in a five star spa resort or a romantic dinner for two at a Michelin awarded establishment.

With these suggestions and a little of your personal creativity, Valentine’s Day gift definitely need not be run of the mill or boring!

Hugs & Kisses, XOXO.

  1. Hmm, I think the Fit Bit Flex or Force is good too. I’m more pleased with Flex than expected. But I still think that even though it say we can bring it to shower, I think it best to take it out before you went in.

  2. I always am training with my boyfriend early morning. We even met on our morning jog. So everyday is like our valentine day. 😀
