What’s trending in 2017

[By Sophia Dillis B.]

After several seasons dominated by the quintessential ‘no-makeup-makeup-look’, get ready to party like it’s 1991 or 1980 in 2017. It’s time to throw out your beauty inhibitions and wear colours with fierce confidence, with designers sending out models channelling club kids past and present, breaking out all the lash glue, hair baubles, and glitter they could find. For S/S17, it’s really just about breaking a few rules, living life and having fun. While we champion embracing makeup in every rainbow shade on the Pantone chart, do exercise suitable control when demonstrating your artistic flare, to strike that perfect balance which separates the avant-garde chic from the wacky tacky!

2271Blush Bomb

Leave subtlety at the doors when you welcome spring’17 with aplomb. No longer staining the skin as a barely there flush, blusher is meant to be seen, confidentally swept across the cheekbones and up towards the eyes for that distinct 80’s draping effect. This new technique known as ‘blush draping’ relies on colours rather than the usual tricks of  contouring and highlighting shades to enhance facial features. While the intensity and tone may be subjective, cheek colour is the designated focal point of the entire face,at times extending past the temples and over the eyelids too!

Turn your dreams for modelesque cheeks into reality with Cheek Sculpt, a specialised technique that uses highly structural hyaluronic acid fillers to augment and define the natural prominence of your cheeks to give them the appearance of higher cheekbones. Most individuals will notice the difference even after one session, but as sculpting a face to perfection is akin to creating a work of art, 2 to 3 sessions of fine-tuning may be required at times to give you the optimal results desired.

2270Unapologetic Pink

Pink isn’t just for the dainty, wholesome girly-girls of the world anymore. Modern Venuses and badass babes rocking with attitude, are making it the statement hue for S/S 17, reaching for bright neons and pigmented fushias over sugary-sweet pastels.Perfectly matte, long lasting and totally kissable, POPSTAR Cosmetics Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick Babette is the perfect choice to amp up your flirtatious mood in spring. Delivering a vivid explosion of intense colour with its waterproof and lightweight formulation that’s non-sticky and glides on effortlessly for ultra-smooth coverage, this product is also fragrance and parabens free, 100% vegan and free from animal cruelty.

2269Dress up your ears

Things are heating up for a most unlikely body part in S/S 17. In addition to dangling statement earrings that’ve ruled the runway for quite some time, the appendages themselves are having a moment.Anthony Vaccarello started it all in spring 2015, with grunge rockers sporting a simple dash of black along the bottom of their ears to add a bit of edge. Last season, a generous sprinkling of glitter along the ear and dragged down to the cheekbone was seen at Opening Ceremony, while celebrity makeup maestro Pat McGrath created chromed lobes for Louis Vuitton models to complement the futuristic collection. As weird as it appears to be, ear makeup  is strangely mesmerizing and a trend that’s hard to ignore.

The ears, like any other body parts such as the hands, can reveal signs of aging such as brown spots and sagging. If you’ve spent years adorning them with heavy chandeliers, seriously stretched-out lobes are crying for help as ears are plucked from obscurity and pushed under the fashion radar in 2017. “Injecting your ears with a natural hyaluronic acid fillers is a quick, safe and effective way to plump up the area and lift sagging lobes.“ Says Dr. Michelle Lim, medical consultant with The Sloane Clinic. A couple of strategically placed injections around the pierced holes will prevent delicate lobes from ripping and provide extra cushioning for heavy statement jewelry. In addition, this will keep post earrings standing straight out instead of pointing towards the floor to better display your sparkling carats to the world!

2268Go for Glow

Designers can’t get enough of highlighted skin in S/S 17, but skin doesn’t have to sparkle to shine. Instead of relying heavily on highlighters and strobing techniques, intense skin prep and moisturization is key to healthy skin that glows perfectly, both day and night.

Go for Glow and turn back the aging clock this holiday season with two miracle workers in the Sloane Inc Christmas Kit: I Wish Upon A Star. Skin Superfood Red Algae releases bursts of ceramides and super anti-oxidant astaxanthin goodness to restore dermal elasticity and prevent the formation of wrinkles and lines, while Skin Superfood Pumpkin Purifying Peel leaves no pores unpreened and bestows upon your skin a positively radiant glow to usher in the festivities.
